This weekend was my Family Reunion and I drove back up to Columbus, Ga to catch some of the events. My brother
and his family had driven down from South Carolina to attend as well.
It wasn’t necessarily a vacation since I’m part of the Columbus crew that was doing this year’s hosting. My brother, was especially given many jobs to do. Although he’d taken off of work to come home he had spent the weekend working.
In a stolen moment with my Dad he admitted to having sent his son to the store over 30 times and he was very grateful and proud of his son. In a moment with my brother he too admitted that he’d been running like crazy but was glad he could help our Dad accomplish so much. I don’t know if they every said this to each other but it was neat to see how much they appreciated each other.
God’s Word tells us to care for the hungry, naked, widows and all but did you realize it always tells us to be ready to help out our own family. See Isaiah 58:7
Share your food with the hungry,
and give shelter to the homeless.
Give clothes to those who need them,
and do not hide from relatives who need your help.
My brother’s willingness to be available to help our Dad is an inspiration for me. Sometimes we can get so busy caring for others that we hide from family. God knew we might feel like this and called us out.
Do you look at serving your family as a burden or ministry to God?
