Last night I watched a TV crime drama about people obsessed with collecting designer sneakers. They would pay small fortunes for shoes that were meant to be kept in display cases.
Near the end of the story one of the collectors was so desperate for a pair of sneakers that he hired someone to steal them for him. He hid the stolen shoes only to have his son find them. His son thought the shoes were a gift and immediately put them on and ran out into the rain to play basketball. His father was crushed!
Sometimes we think of the talents God gives us as treasures that should be hidden away. We’re scared that if we use them and mess up that we may lose our value. But God knows us. God knows you. He gave you those talents because he knows you can use it to glorify Him.
In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) we read about servants that turned their masters money into more money. Then there is one servant who is so scared he just buries the money.
As Christians we serve a God that isn’t playing games with us. If we cry out for wisdom and understanding He will teach us to be wise. We need not fear to step out and follow Him.
In all your ways acknowledge HIM,
and he will make your paths straight.
